    genetic marker | molecular marker
    en
Definition DNA sequence which shows polymorphism and can be detected using a molecular technique Reference "Nachimuthu Saraswathy, Ponnusamy Ramalingam. '6 - Genome mapping' (4.10.2023). In: Concepts and Techniques in Genomics and Proteomics Woodhead Publishing Series in Biomedicine 2011, Pages 77-93"
Comment Examples of molecular markers are RFLP, SSR-Microsatellite, Minisatellite, VNTR, AFLP, RAPD, etc. To map these markers on the genome, their inheritance pattern is monitored in subsequent generations. Molecular techniques such as Southern hybridization and PCR are used to detect the polymorphism. The data collected is used to construct the map using computer packages.
